Wendy Grant

I was born in Vermont and lived on a farm there until we moved to Pennsylvania where my father was appointed pastor to a church just outside of Pittsburgh. These two homes serve as a catalyst for two of my favorite hobbies, raising miniature horses, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers! I moved from Pittsburgh to Michigan soon after marrying my husband of almost 25 years, Eric. We have two children, Eric II (13) and Brianna (8). Eric serves as a local elementary school teacher as well as ministering to the children at church in both Children’s Church and Lil Kids Club. I guess you could say, “Kids Are Us.”

My Story

Growing up in a family of Christ’s servants, I felt the need for a personal relationship with Jesus at the age of seven. I love to share my salvation story with children.
One day as I was playing outside my parents purchased a new grill. It had a shelf on top that I found perfect for baking mud pies. My parents did not agree that this would be a good use for their new grill, and I was told I could not play with it.
When they went back inside I couldn’t seem to resist. I made a batch of mud cakes and tried to open the shelf door to bake them. The only problem was that the door was VERY HOT! My hand was burned, and it was evidence to my disobedience.
When my parent questioned me I choose to lie and tell them I didn’t touch the grill. For some reason they let the subject drop, and my guilt took over. That night after I had been tucked into bed I was unable to sleep and knew that Jesus was saddened by my lie. I went downstairs to confess to my mom and face the consequences. She instead encouraged me to ask Christ’s forgiveness and to ask Him to help me make better choices in the future. I continue to this day asking for His help in my choices, and have found He is always there to serve as my guide!

My Ministry Journey to SAFMC

Eric and I were appointed to our first pastorate just three months after our wedding. We have served Christ together in various positions through the years as pastor, State Youth and Children’s Ministry Directors and Youth Camp Directors. We became part of the SAFMC family soon after our son, Eric was born. It became our desire to “put down roots” and remain in a local area to raise our family.

What I do at SAFMC

I am in my third year of serving on staff at SAFMC. I served as our Nursery Director and as an assistant to Children’s, Hospitality and Assimilation’s ministries. Starting in August of 2009 I am blessed to serve as the Director of Children’s Ministries.
Having the opportunity to be a wife to my husband Eric and a mom to our children Eric II and Brianna while working with and helping children to grow into fully devoted followers of Christ is, in my book, the best life I can dream of. I am excited and thrilled to see the many ways God is working in the lives of children. Watching as a child receives a deeper knowledge of Christ’s love and the enthusiasm with which they serve Jesus from a pure heart is absolute JOY!
