Rod Mathews
I’ve been here at Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church longer then any other staff. Not sure what that says or means, but one thing’s for sure, they can’t get rid of me! I’ve carried a few roles while I’ve been here, but my focus currently is overseeing our growing ministry to our local community and the Family Center (gym). I love sports and have had the privilege to use that as a vehicle to “show & share” the good news of Christ. If you need to find me, look for me in my office… which would be a gym, or a tennis court, softball field, out on the links, etc.
Family
Love being a husband and dad. Have the most wonderful wife, Toni to whom I’ve been married to for 28 years…I think. My son Ryan is a recent graduate from Indiana Wesleyan University and looking for full time work now…welcome to the real world. My one daughter, Becca is a finishing up her sophomore year and Indiana Wesleyan University and plays soccer for the Lady Wildcats. Rachel, my youngest is a junior in high school and is active in sports and has creative art talent. No one else in the family has that, so we don’t know where that came from.
Passions
I love my Lord; love my family, love life. Enjoy being outdoors and I’m grateful for each day.
Secret Ambition
I want to sky-dive or do a bungee jump from a very high bridge.
If I could recommend one book to someone
Bible. I know I know what you’re thinking. I’m a pastor, I have to say that. Not really. I’ve found that reading God’s Word is very hard at times and all too often, taken for granted. But when I get immersed in it I find myself, my purpose, and the God to whom I serve. It’s worth a read. There are lots of good books out there, but only one Good Book.
Favorite Movie
Umm….Back in the 70’s, it had to be Rocky. Another good one is Ned Devine. Hilarious movie! Really enjoyed Second Hand Lions. Love the Lord of the Rings movies. But if you really know me you’d know I have to say this is my favorite….Hoosiers.
What's currently playing on my iPod
Kids finally got me one for Christmas after I complained enough about not having one while they all did. Love to use it when I’m out on my long runs. Currently have Rascal Flats, Mercy Me, Third Day, Mark Schultz, Michael W. Smith, and News Boys.
