Pastor Adam Davidson

I grew up in Garden City & Westland, MI, suburbs that are so close to Detroit Metro Airport that I used to count windows on 747’s as they did their final approach to land. I was raised on a fairly wide variety of music—classic rock, jazz, choral, electronic and (sigh) country. I got my first keyboard on my 4th birthday and have been hooked ever since, both to birthdays and keyboards. Because my wife is a piano teacher, our kids (5, 4 and 1) are naturally finding their way into music. We are considering getting them a drum set. Pray for us.
I love coffee, I love reading, I love good music, and when all three happen at the same time, I’m thrilled. I’ve always dug Jeeps and have the honor of keeping an old Wrangler in running condition. Emily thinks the interior smells like a barn, to which I’m starting to agree. But that doesn’t matter because when it’s warm out, we take off the Jeep’s roof and cruise in the open air, smelling only the joy of the outdoors and the occasional barn.
Our family cooks together, plays together and travels to the the homes of various grandparents quite regularly. I’m an unlicensed electrician, big’n’ tall shopper and a rail fan. If I had a bike, I’d ride it. If I had a license, I’d fish. If I did both simultaneously, someone would get hurt. I’d rather run around with my kids in our backyard.

My Story

I love the Lord and can testify to His hand of mercy and guidance in my life. Through it all—unique life situations, a young childhood that was headed away from God and the excitement of having a home with three very young children, one of which has special needs—God has been faithful and true. I am set free from sin because of Jesus Christ —and that’s the very best thing.

My Ministry Journey to SAFMC

I sensed a call to ministry at a pretty young age (13) and have pursued that, often from unexpected places and only by His grace. After studying music and ministry in college, I served as a Worship Leader at a Free Methodist Church near Toledo, Ohio until God called us to Spring Arbor FMC. I truly am a lifelong learner, aiming to read or skim at least one book a day, plan on taking at least one class per semester for as long as I can, and love what God is doing in my life and in my family. The people that make up our church community have helped me to continue to develop and grow in ministry, and my desire is to serve the Lord faithfully! Besides a B.A. in Music Ministry, I have a M.A. in Organizational Management and plan on pursuing more graduate education while in ministry. I’m thankful to serve as an Ordained Elder in the Free Methodist Church (June 2009).

What I do at SAFMC

I serve as the Worship Arts Pastor, which gives me the wonderful opportunity to serve with a large number of creative and organizational people to define a corporate Worship environment. In a given week, I am leading rehearsals, planning and arranging music, working with committed and skilled volunteers, selecting media elements and prayerfully planning the liturgical flow for our services. My passion and joy is seeing people grow in their relationship with the Lord in Worship. Our team uses multiple elements to make this happen on a weekly basis, but our prayer is that the The Lord would be present in power as we gather every Sunday, because He is the one who brings these elements to life. It’s a blast to be along for the ride!
