Earl Habecker
(Please Note: Associate Pastor Earl Habecker, who has served Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church since 1995, has been granted a well-deserved sabbatical leave from June 21-August 31. His ministry in pastoral care will be covered by Pastor Darold Hill and other staff pastors. Pastor Earl and Elma plan to travel, spend time with family and take time for spiritual renewal.)
I’m Earl Habecker and was featured on the front page of the October Echo with a funny nose, funny hat and red kerchief around my neck. The photo will be a collector’s item! Seriously I’ve been around a while, was born in Penn Yan, New York before the II World War. However, I have lived in Michigan the majority of my life, am married for 51 years to Elma whom I dearly love. Together we have three grown children and six grandchildren.
My Story
To the question “Can a child hear God speak?” I respond whole heartedly “yes.” I began following God at a very early age and have continued growing in my love for Jesus Christ for more than 70 years. My relationship with Christ was confirmed as a student at Wayne State University and while attending Asbury Seminary God’s Spirit filled my life in a fresh way. Although 50 years have passed since my Seminary days my desire is to know the God who loves me better each day.
My Ministry Journey to SAFMC
I have had the awesome privilege of pastoring five great churches in Southern Michigan before coming on staff at Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church nearly 15 years ago.
What I do at SAFMC
I serve on a super pastoral team here at SAFMC and lead the Pastoral Care Ministry. I encourage people as I visit them in the hospital, care centers and in their homes. I also co-lead the lay care ministry of our church. I am involved in the prayer ministry of our church and lead the Prayer Hour each Wednesday evening. I welcome opportunities to pray with and encourage people who are hurting or have special needs.
